During this course students are introduced to Nepali traditional art design as well as Buddhist symbols. The unique and complicated design of flowers, vines, and leafs were created by the indigenous people of the Kathmandu valley known as Newar. The Newar tradition has a long artistic history. Through art books, video and PowerPoint presentations, students will study the variety of designs and practice with both pencil and ink.
Students will complete one painting of a lotus highly stylized and decorated with Newar motif.
